New Site: BEARablebeer.tumblr.com/

BEARablebeer.tumblr.com/

I know I have not been updating this as much as I should, but I reached a really busy time in my life with moving to Kansas City, trying to get this last semester of college done with, and working a ton. I am back though with a new project I am really excited about. Why? Because it involves beer.

I hope to document my journey through different types of craft beer using film and my new darkroom. Be warned though the darkroom is still in progress (not much longer) so the first few posts will be digital photography still. Please stop by and for all of you who followed and visited this blog I thank you so much.

I will leave this blog behind for any new random posts I may come up with, but this new blog will be my new home for a bit.

Cheers,
Alexander Bear

Wire Man Custom Bokeh

This guy is about the only good thing I got out of my initial major of networking and communications. Maybe if I would have spent less time making little guys out of cat5 cables and more time learning the OSI model I would be making a lot more money right now. I hope to do a whole series with him in the future when I find more time somewhere.
The light behind him is supposed to be in the shape of a man, much like the wire man. It was done with a bokeh cutout attached to the end of the lens, a lot like this one.

Vaseline Filter

Bored at home today without school or work, so I must find ways to pass the time. I decide to put vaseline on my lens and take pictures, no not really (I'm cheap and I don't want to risk my lens), so I put it on my filter, no not really (I'm super cheap and worry about making my $20 piece of plastic greasy), so I put it on some old plastic from an iPod case, no not really (I'm a hoarder an may need that some day for warranty uses), so I use my girlfriend's old iPod case, yes really.

New Watermark

I've had this idea for a watermark for sometime now, but due to my very limited knowledge in graphic  design (None if you wanna get technical). Luckily my good friend Aaron, who is on his way to becoming one of the greatest artists of our time, turned me on to another Aaron (apparently talent is in a name) who was able to draw this up for me. After 2 exchanges in emails and less than 24 hours he already had a few options delivered. If you are in need of anything such as watermarks or logos Aaron Shaffer is more than professional, and won't keep you waiting.
His email is :aaronshafferdesign@gmail.com

Overflow

It's been awhile since the last post, but I have a few pictures for the next couple of days from our riveting photo challenge this month in my photo club: Water drops.

Stop-Light

This is a little stop motion video I made during my month of light painting. The title page that says "DINO" was done with an iPhone drawn out across a 30 sec. frame, and to go with the Dino theme I have Dinosaur Jr. Playing in the background.  WARNING: it is super short, and super lame. Alexander C. Bear is not responsible for any  bleeding of the eyes.

Abandoned Green Acres pt. deux

I would like to thank the models that came out to the shoot Sunday. I would also like to give a huge thanks to Alexis and Clarissa who humble me with their photography but spent the day lugging around lights and helping in set-up.

This young lady's name is Heidi Morrow, who I turned out to be someone I had met once before, but being the professional I am was not aware of that fact until she was leaving.

This woman's name is Tana and came well prepared and was very professional, as you can see below she came outfits including a wedding dress and an electrical taped together dress which was reminder of a Silent Hill character.

These final 3 girls were just as professional and fantastic to work with, but again due to my "professionalism" I was unable to get their names before they left, but will soon update the post once the names are learned.

Abandoned Green Acres

The next 2 posts are pictures made from my photo shoot at the Green Acres Retirement Home here in St. Joseph. This site was once the state welfare home about 10 years ago. Since then nature has taken a hold of it and ravished it.
I have wanted to shoot here for a while, on account that my great grandmother spent some time here in between other retirement homes and I remember how creepy, small, and life-sucking the rooms were then, and they have only gotten worse. When I brought up the fact that I had always dreamed of breaking in for a day to my camera club one of the members informed me he knew the owner and was able to get us in (much easier than breaking in).
This first post will be for the building, a testament of its current state of disrepair. The next post will be a showcase of my chance to put some lights up and shoot with some models.

 Wash Up

This is a picture of a room filled with dirt. There were a couple of rooms like this in the basement. I applied an HDR effect to this just so you could see farther back, and below is the same room, and that white thing to the right of the chair is a cat... A very old and very dead cat.

Glore Psychiatric Museum

After an awful day at work yesterday I was invited to go shooting at the Glore Psychiatric Museum today with a friend from school. The Museum is housed inside the old, creepy, state psychiatric hospital so there are nice peeling walls and great yellow floors which made it interesting to shoot. I did not get very many shots though, due to the fact that I ended up playing tourist on account that I have never made it in there... until now.

La Lumière Voiture

This is the second photo I made using the Eric William Curry technique. This was down a hill behind this technical college here in St. Joseph, on the coldest night of the year. My car broke down the night before, and I was driving my mom's car, so I had to be careful driving on the ice. So I jumped the curb and drove full speed down the hill (it was REALLY cold out, and I needed someplace to warm up during my 30 second exposures!)

Light on Dark Room

Ok, I am finally done with the light painting photos I have been working on all month so there should be a steady stream of posts, for the next week at least. This is one of my first attempts at using Eric William Curry's technique of painting with light.

Snowed In

With this onslaught of snow I have been cooped up inside giving me plenty of time to update my blog religiously, this is not how my time was spent though. Not that I couldn't force myself to create a new post, the matter of fact was I just didn't have any new stuff. I have been out in the middle of the night in during wintry snow enough this season, and have suffered from the ill effects, so inside I will stay inside during this round. I have been working hard making pictures inside with different light painting techniques, some of which I showed earlier this month, but I am not quite ready to show the rest yet... soon. So until then I will post these two I took towards the beginning of winter, one of these, of course, is my avatar, I figured I'd show the larger version, the other one is taken the same night at the WWI museum.

Model Mayhem part deux

This young lady's name is Cali, she is the second model that showed up on Saturday. I have nothing but good things to say about the two models, and Cali was very professional.

Model Mayhem Shoot part une

These are shots from a photo shoot that I did yesterday. Only two models showed up due to a high chance of snow, and they didn't want to chance driving from Kansas City and back. Luckily this young lady, Olivia, is one of them that showed up. Olivia is the daughter of one of the members from the photo club and she could not have done any better of a job.
